Despite being in vastly different stages in their careers, both Messi and Mbappe are approaching contractually pivotal junctures going forward with the Parisian giants.

The Argentine legend’s next move has been shrouded in mystery, with the 35-year-old still yet to agree an extension to the two-year deal he signed in 2021, as speculation mounts that he may eye a return to Barcelona.

Meanwhile despite being the world’s highest paid player, Mbappe is approaching the final twelve months of his deal at the Parc des Princes at the end of the current campaign, with suitors from across world football no doubt salivating at the prospect of signing the newly-appointed France captain.

‘We are lucky to have some of the best players in the world, who wanted to play for PSG despite receiving offers from other clubs.’ Al-Khelaifi told Marca.

‘We are working to keep them going. We are going to analyze what we are doing and make sure we can continue with them; we want to do things accordingly. We are not going to make mistakes.’

The 49-year-old Qatari businessmen further insisted that the players are only focused on securing another league title.

Christophe Galtier’s side enjoyed a excellent start to the current season, racing into a seven-point lead at the turn of the new year.

However, a poor run of form in January saw Les Parisiens win just one of four league games, with the disappointment compounded followed by a dismal exits in both the French Cup and the Champions League to Marseille and Bayern Munich respectively.

Despite their mixed form in 2023, PSG remain at the top of Ligue 1 as they look to secure their eighth league title of the last decade.
