Arsenal’s title hopes looked decidedly on the rocks when they fell to a two-goal deficit against the Cherries, starting off in the worst possible way with Philip Billing’s goal after 9.11 seconds.

However the Gunners kicked into gear after going 2-0 down just before the hour mark, with Thomas Partey and substitute Ben White getting the hosts level with 20 minutes remaining.

Home fans at the Emirates had to wait a long time for the victory to be crowned, before substitute Reiss Nelson stepped up with the decisive goal in the 97th minute – a piece of late drama to mirror the chaos of the opening seconds.

It has led many in the football world to believe it marks a key moment in Arsenal’s pursuit of Premier League glory, as it restored their five-point lead at the summit.

Sportsmail’s own Chris Sutton tweeted: ‘It’s days like today where you think maybe this is Arsenal’s season. Incredible comeback and the game settled by a Reiss Nelson rocket’, alongside two clapping emojis.

Eddie Nketiah, the Arsenal forward sidelined for the Bournemouth match with an ankle issue, wrote: ‘Reiss Nelson, game changer!!!’

Nelson, 23, came through the Arsenal youth system, and has proved his value to the North London club, by stepping up with the valuable goal at a critical time in the title race.

Football fans are also backing the Gunners to go all the way after that stellar turnaround. One wrote: ‘Arsenal have mentality monsters. They will win the league for sure.’

Some are even tipping them for the big prize begrudgingly, with one noting: ‘However, this hurts me to say, Arsenal will win the league.’

Arsenal’s next outing is a trip to Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League on Thursday night, before returning to London for a derby match at Fulham.
