Fans have been piling in on Tottenham keeper Hugo Lloris after his own goal put Spurs behind in the North London derby.

Bukayo Saka whipped in a cross from the right wing in the 14th minute, which Lloris failed to deal with and deflected into his own net.

It put Spurs 1-0 down against league leaders Arsenal and in danger of losing to their local rivals at home for the first time since 2014.

‘I can no longer defend Lloris,’ tweeted one Spurs fan. ‘He is the biggest liability in the Premier League.

‘How many goals have we conceded and points dropped as a direct result of his errors? We need to get another keeper in ASAP.’

Some added that the error ‘would have been comical in league two’  and labelled the World Cup winning keeper ‘unreliable.’

Another particularly frustrated supporter simply added ‘How many times, how many times,’ while Gary Neville said on Sky’s coverage of the game the first goal ‘sapped the energy out of the stadium.’

Things went from bad to worse for Spurs after Lloris’ error, as Martin Odegaard doubled the Gunners lead with an excellent strike from outside the box.

It leaves Mikel Arteta’s side headed for an eight point lead over second placed Manchester City in the Premier League table, with the title quickly becoming theirs to lose.

For Spurs, a loss would move them further away from the Champions League places, as they would remain five points away from fourth place Manchester United.
