Luke Shaw has hailed Manchester United’s support in the club’s victory over Manchester City on Saturday.

The 27-year-old was once again preferred to Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof as Raphael Varane’s partner in central defence, with the duo successfully limiting City star Erling Haaland’s influence on the game.
Speaking with club media following the come-from-behind victory, Shaw claimed the Old Trafford was the best he had witnessed since joining the club from Southampton in 2014.

‘It’s incredible, for me, I’ve been here a long time now, I think eight years. For me, today, the atmosphere was the best I’ve been involved in.
‘It shows the fans are with us, they’re pushing us in the right direction, and I hope they really enjoyed it today.
‘We love the atmosphere; we love them being there and we are glad to be making them happy again.’

After a tense first half, Pep Guardiola’s side took the lead through Jack Grealish after 60 minutes, but United returned fire thanks to a goal from Bruno Fernandes which some claimed should not have stood due to Marcus Rashford’s involvement from an offside position.
After serving as the centre of controversy Rashford would again find himself in the spotlight by adding a second goal just minutes later to put United in the lead and ultimately secure three points for Erik ten Hag’s side.
Such was the controversy after the game that Grealish Maguire and others became embroiled in a spat in the tunnel with the City goalscorer said to have been ‘very disappointed’ in the aftermath of the defeat according to Jan Aage Fjortoft.
