Tottenham are keeping tabs on David Raya as they search for a replacement for Hugo Lloris, according to a report.

2018 World Cup winning captain and 2022 finalist Lloris has just turned 36 having played for Spurs since 2012, and more errors are creeping into his game despite the France international having signed a two-year contract extension last year.

According to The Telegraph, Raya is top of the North London club’s list of long-term replacements for Lloris, who could leave Tottenham soon, and a deal could be done for the Spaniard as early as the summer transfer window.

It is believed that Spurs aren’t looking to add a goalkeeper to their rank in the January window, with the club and manager Antonio Conte happy to settle with Lloris for now.

A plan is set to be put in place to replace Lloris, who has made 439 appearances for the club since joining from Lyon for £11million, with back-up goalkeeper Fraser Forster also coming towards the end of his career at 34.

Young goalkeepers Brandon Austin and Alfie Whiteman, both 24, are unlikely to be ready to step up in time.

Raya has made 141 appearances for Brentford since joining the club from Blackburn in 2019, and has become a key member of a Bees side that continue to impress in the Premier League under Thomas Frank.

At just 27, it’s possible Raya’s best years are ahead of him and he was in the Spain squad for the World Cup in Qatar, having picked up two caps for his country.

He has just 18 months left on his deal at Brentford, and if he refuses to sign a new contract negotiations could be easier for Tottenham in the summer.

Jordan Pickford is reportedly another option for Tottenham, though they will focus on bringing in a wing-back and attacking player in the January window.
