Atletico Madrid have asked about taking Caglar Soyuncu from Leicester City in the January transfer window.

Atleti boss Diego Simeone is believed to be keen on rebuilding his defence after a  shaky few months, and sees the Turkey international as part of the solution.

However, a deal is considered highly unlikely with the 26-year-old expected to agree a pre-contract instead for the summer when he is a free agent.

The Foxes have already lost one key defender this season, after Wesley Fofana joined Chelsea in August following weeks of speculation.

Despite being a regular under Brendan Rodgers for three years and helping Leicester to the FA Cup in 2021, Soyuncu has fallen out of favour this season and played just one Premier League game.

It has comes amid a disappointing run of form for Leicester that has put them 13th in the league after winning just five of their opening 17 games.

A move to Spain could provide a chance for the centre back to get his career back on track with regular football at a competitive side.

If a deal was agreed, it could also be an excellent one for Atleti, who have already been knocked out of the Champions League and could do with an injection of talent amid speculation over Joao Felix’s future
