With the points too close for comfort, Manchester United needed to beat Liverpool to have a shot at Man City. But alas, it wasn’t to be.

Liverpool fans are beside themselves as they hand arch-rivals Manchester United a loss that is humiliating in its scale, and timely in its delivery.
Sitting just seven points above Liverpool on the table at 49 points, Manchester United desperately needed a solid win, both to stave off a resurgent Liverpool, as well as to keep their chase of Manchester City alive.
But it wasn’t to be, as Liverpool stomped Man U for a 7-0 scoreline, equalling their biggest margin of loss in their history. This is only the fourth time in their history that they were humiliated to this level, the other three occasions were April 10, 1926 to Blackburn, December 27, 1930 to Aston Villa, and December 26, 1931 to Wolverhampton.
March 5, 2003 will now go into the history books along with the others as the day that Manchester United were handed their biggest league defeat ever.
