Jurgen Klopp believes there must be resignations in UEFA’s hierarchy for the chaos caused by selecting Paris to replace St Petersburg as host for last season’s Champions League final.

The findings of an independent inquiry were published this week and highlighted failings on UEFA’s behalf that led to a ‘near miss’ — the potential for serious injuries and fatalities — outside the Stade de France on May 28.

Liverpool supporters were exonerated from being at the root of the problems, which UEFA initially said were caused by fans arriving late and the circulation of fake tickets.

Klopp, whose family were caught up in the turmoil, said: ‘From the first moment, I thought it wasn’t a good idea to be in Paris. Some people who work there (at UEFA) should have done better.

‘You cannot work with volunteers in a day like this when so many people arrive there. You need experienced people.’

Klopp, whose side can revive their top-four hopes with victory at Newcastle this evening, added: ‘I’m not sure who made the decision. I’m boss of some people, and on a lot of things I’m not 100 per cent on the subject.

‘So I get information from people and then make a decision. The better the information, the better the decisions are.’
