Jamie Carragher has called out Jordan Pickford’s positioning for Liverpool’s opener in Monday’s Merseyside derby.

After a stunning counter attack from Liverpool, Darwin Nunez crossed the ball into the box for Mohamed Salah, who comfortably knocked the ball past Pickford to put the home side 1-0 up.
Cody Gakpo made it 2-0 with his first goal since joining the Reds after half time.
The strike came moments after Everton almost took the lead in a similar manner to their winner against Arsenal last week, but they struggled to cope with Liverpool’s break and were punished.
For Carragher, it was Toffees keeper Jordan Pickford who was most at fault for the goal, as he told Sky Sports: ‘Liverpool get a bit of fortune. Tarkowski has a chance at the back post – it is reminiscent of the Arsenal goal – but this time it doesn’t go in.

‘We said before the game that Everton can’t cope with counter-attacks. Nunez’s pass and the delivery is fantastic.
‘The finish from Salah is fantastic but you have to question the goalkeeper, he’s in no man’s land.’
Gary Neville added that Pickford’s position was ‘just bad’ and claimed that the visitors ‘didn’t play’ in the first half.
Salah’s goal will be a welcome one for the home fans. It was his first goal of 2023, and has set Liverpool on course for what could be a vital win after a tough start to the season.
If they can go on to win the game, Jurgen Klopp’s side will overtake Chelsea into ninth, while Everton will remain in the bottom three unless they can stage an unlikely comeback.
