Arsenal legend Ian Wright was full of praise for Leandro Trossard after the winger scored his first goal for the club.

Trossard, who joined from Brighton last month, was brought on in the 62nd minute against Brentford as he replaced Gabriel Martinelli, who had struggled to make much of an impact.

Within four minutes of coming on, Trossard found the net with a neat finish to put Arsenal ahead.

The Gunners were unable to hold onto their lead, with Ivan Toney levelling for Brentford with an effort that was allowed to stand despite a VAR check.

Wright believes that Trossard was an impressive acquisition for Arsenal in terms of adding depth to their squad.

Speaking on Premier League Productions, Wright said: ‘That is what is going to have to happen, you are going to need goals from other places.

‘It wasn’t happening for Martinelli in the first half and what you need is for something to happen off the bench and this is why he is such a good signing.

‘We know he is capable at this level. He just sneaks in at the back there and gets the goal.

‘This is a great ball from Saka, one of the few times we were able to get past them because we passed a little bit quicker, great sharp movement.

‘They defended very well but when we did that, we were able to get through.’

It will be an intriguing battle between Trossard and Martinelli for a starting berth, with both players having different qualities.

Trossard’s directness and Premier League experience is extremely useful for Mikel Arteta’s side as they continue their challenge for the title.

Arsenal are six points ahead of Manchester City at the top, but City are in action against Aston Villa on Sunday before their trip to Emirates Stadium on Wednesday.

After a stellar start to the season, Arsenal have failed to win any of their last three games across all competitions.

They will be determined to respond against City in a game that could be hugely important in the title race.
