Everton are in the market to sign two forwards this month with the Toffees weighing up a move for Bologna striker Marko Arnautovic.
The crisis-hit Toffees are looking to turn their disastrous season around by bringing in attacking reinforcements this month as they look to beat the drop for a second successive campaign.
They are currently without a manager following the sacking of Frank Lampard earlier this week but club chiefs are keeping tabs on former West Ham forward Arnautovic, who currently plays in the Serie A.
The Austrian was a target for Manchester United in the summer but no move materialised. He currently has eight goals in 16 games for Bologna.
Everton hope the 33-year-old will be enticed by a move back to the Premier League along with the task of helping the club stave off relegation.
However, one player unlikely to be heading to Goodison Park is Hakim Ziyech.
Chelsea are weighing up whether to let the Moroccan leave the club this month, given how he has played a bit-part role under Graham Potter.
His situation at Stamford Bridge saw Everton register their interest, with former boss Lampard a huge admirer of the winger.
But with Lampard now gone, a move for Ziyech appears unlikely.
The Toffees will be desperate to sign attacking reinforcements, given how they had their move for Arnaut Danjuma hijacked by Tottenham at the last minute, despite the Dutch winger passing a medical and agreeing to join them.
They are also struggling to keep hold of Anthony Gordon, with Newcastle close to finalising a deal for the club’s academy graduate.
Gordon, who has three Premier League goals to his name this season, has fallen a little out of favour at Goodison Park amid the team’s recent struggles.
Should Gordon leave, though, it would mean more gaps to fill in Everton’s attack.
