Gomes has been a regular for the Brazilian outfit since making his debut in October 2020, and has already won several honours at club level, including the Copa Libertadores.

The 21-year-old looks likely to be playing at the Molineux in the near future despite revealing his desire to play for Liverpool back in September.

Gomes told ESPN: ‘Liverpool are a team I’d play for. I have the greatest desire to play.’

‘Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream in football.’

Liverpool, despite their struggles in midfield, have not pursued a move – unlike Newcastle who were keeping tabs on the midfielder.

The Magpies, whos sit third in the table, decided against a move for Gomes however.

Newcastle are keen to sign a midfielder and have discussed the likes of Jorginho, Youri Tielemans, Kephren Thuram and Kuadio Kone.

They would like a young and athletic No 6, however Jorginho’s experience of the league could be beneficial despite recently turning 31.

Liverpool are widely expected to make a move for a midfielder in the future with Jude Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund their prime target.

Gomes might not be the only business Wolves have coming, as they are finalising terms with Nice for Mario Lemina over a potential £9million deal.

They have also opened talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a deal for attacking midfielder Pablo Sarabia.
