Erik ten Hag insists it’s too early in the season to start thinking about trophies at Manchester United ahead of his first FA Cup game against Everton.

The Dutchman will get his first taste of the FA Cup when the Toffees visit Old Trafford on Friday but he has urged fans not to get distracted and think too far ahead when it comes to silverware.

‘I don’t think about that,’ Ten Hag said when asked about winning a trophy in his first season at Old Trafford. ‘It’s in this stage of the season you are not looking at, we have to get into a position you can win something and I know the season is taking long, especially with such a lot of games ahead.

‘When you think too far ahead, you get distracted, focus on the team progress, team development, it’s all about that. We have many elements in our game we have to improve.’
