Sportsmail reported on Wednesday that the Premier League side are set to pay around £8million for the Ivorian striker.

And football journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed the deal is done and will take place in London on Thursday – Fofana’s 20th birthday.

He tweeted: ‘David Datro Fofana to Chelsea, done deal and here we go! There’s full agreement between all parties, deal sealed #CFC.

‘Been told medical tests will take place today in London, on his birthday. Born in 2002, Ivorian striker will join Chelsea from Molde.’

Fofana scored 22 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions for the Norwegian side as they recorded a league and cup double in the 2022 season, which finished in November.

Once confirmed, the deal for Fofana, whose only cap came back in 2019, could be Chelsea’s first deal of the January transfer window.

Blues boss Graham Potter seems eager to sign rising stars, having cemented deals for Carney Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa, Cesare Casadei from Inter Milan, Gabriel Slonina from Chicago Fire and Omari Hutchinson from Arsenal.

Chelsea are also on the verge of signing 18-year-old Brazilian starlet Andrey Santos from Vasco da Gama despite interest from Newcastle and Manchester City.

Fofana revealed just six months ago that Chelsea is his dream club, as he edges closer to a switch to Stamford Bridge.

When asked who his favourite Premier League team is, he said: ‘Chelsea. I don’t know why, but I want to play for Chelsea.

‘They’re a very good team. It’s in my heart.’
