Tyrell Malacia of Manchester United says he objected to Louis van Gaal’s choice to utilize him as a center defense, despite Netherlands’ triumph over Belgium.

During the summer transfer window, Malacia moved to Manchester United, and he has since solidified himself as a player in Erik ten Hag’s starting XI.

The former Feyenoord player has moved up the hierarchy beyond Luke Shaw.

In the early stages of his Premier League debut, he has made an impression.

The 23-year-old also seems certain to play a significant role for his nation at the World Cup this winter, and his seat on the flight to Qatar is probably already reserved.

Malacia also added a new tool to his arsenal on Sunday, helping the Oranje defeat Belgium 1-0.

But instead of being deployed on the sides as is normal, Malacia was set up as one of the three center defenders.

He was put through a trial, according to Van Gaal, to compete with Kevin De Bruyne.

According to Van Gaal, Martins Indi won’t qualify for the World Cup.

“Belgium was replaced by [Nathan] Ake because I also wanted to see Malacia there.

Martins Indi won’t be able to play there, so I need to look at other players who can.

Given how frequently De Bruyne played on that side, “I put him on the left of the center defense.

“Having a pitbull like that is preferable to having someone like Blind who attempts a tactical solution.

“I put Malacia there,” he said, “since De Bruyne has more acceleration than Blind does.

“I had previously brought up the possibility of him playing as a left center-back with him yesterday,” I said.

On the other hand, Malacia and Van Gaal were seen bickering on the sidelines during a break in the action.

The United defender has also spoken up about the discussion and some of the difficulties he had in his new position.

According to De Telegraaf, Malacia told reporters, “I went two or three times too much forward.”

“In current position, it is not feasible to do that so rapidly. But others had to correct me.

“Yes, I wasn’t on board with it at the time. That’s accurate. We spent some time discussing that moment after the game, and then it was done.

The defensive work he did was excellent, according to Van Gaal. However, the preparation’s constructive work may have been much better.

Malacia was excited to take over, but he acknowledged that the management of his new team has given him a position that he prefers.

I feel at ease with United right now. According to the national coach, I ought to be able to play in the middle of the defense as well. But on the left, I feel the finest.
