On the transfer deadline day of the summer window, Barcelona tried to land Mexican right-back Julian Araujo from MLS outfit LA Galaxy but could not get the deal over the line.

The 21-year-old youngster emerged as a prospective target for the Blaugrana late in the transfer window as they continued their pursuit of a new right-back after missing out on Cesar Azpilicueta and Juan Foyth.
However, a move failed to materialise as they were unable to reach an agreement with LA Galaxy with so little time left in the transfer window.
Now, Fabrizio Romano is reporting that even though Barcelona missed out on signing Araujo on the deadline day, they will continue monitoring the 21-year-old prospect over the next few months. However, several other clubs in Europe are also keeping tabs on the young defender.
Araujo joined the LA Galaxy academy in 2018 and has been a part of the first-team setup for over two years now.
The right-back has made 100 appearances, in which he has produced a return of one goal and 12 assists. He has also made three appearances for the Mexican national team and is held in very high regard.
While Barcelona missed out on Araujo, they ended up signing Hector Bellerin on a free transfer from Arsenal. The former La Masia prospect has signed only a one-year contract with the club, which might indicate that the Catalans have something planned for next year.
Araujo will have gained more experience during the one year and could well be ready to make a step up to La Liga from the MLS should Barcelona come calling in 2023.
For now, though, the Mexican international will continue his development at LA Galaxy while the Blaugrana keep a close watch on how he progresses.
