Wayne Rooney’s DC United team have received a welcomed boost ahead of their match against New York City FC with star signing Christian Benteke finally eligible to play.

The Belgium international’s signing was announced on August 5, but had been pending the approval of his P1 visa.

Benteke signed a two-and-a-half year contract with DC United.

According to the Washington Post, Big Ben received it in London Tuesday morning and boarded a flight to New York.

DC United manager Rooney is said to be ‘aim[ing] to play him 20 minutes.’

Seven games remain in the MLS season for DC United and Benteke must do his utmost to impress and secure his spot in the Belgian national team.

Fortunately for the ex-Crystal Palace and Liverpool man, his country have Nations League matches vs. Wales and Holland in September.

The 31-year-old leaves behind the Premier League after a decade. He initially plied his trade for Aston Villa in 2012 following an $8.5million transfer from Belgium club, Genk.

Benteke scored 42 in 89 for the Villans, earning him a move to European giants, Liverpool.

While his time on Merseyside did not transpire as he may have hoped, Benteke did leave a lasting impression with a quite incredible bicycle kick against Manchester United.

As his time at Anfield ended, Crystal Palace swooped. The Eagles forked out $32.5m and handed the Belgian a four-year deal.

Benteke had a mixed six seasons at Selhurst Park, scoring 35 goals in 132 appearances for the South London.
