Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour has heaped praise on Marcus Rashford following his performance in Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Liverpool on Monday.

The 24-year-old looked to be at his best once again against Jurgen Klopp’s side, playing with intensity before netting the second goal in the 53rd minute.

Prior to Monday, Rashford was enduring a difficult time on the pitch as he struggled with injuries and a lack of form, scoring just four goals in 25 Premier League appearances last season.

But he latched on to Anthony Martial’s through-ball to double United’s lead after Jadon Sancho put them ahead early in the first-half.

Rashford also ended the match with the most shots and sprints, leading to praise from Parlour, who was particularly impressed with the finish.

‘Rashford was a different player, unbelievable. I’m really pleased for him as well. he needed that goal and it was a great finish by the way,’ Parlour said speaking on talkSPORT.

‘He showed the eyes to Alisson, putting it near-post instead of far-post. Usually you go for the far-post there, a little bit like Elanga did and hit the post.

‘That’s what I thought Rashford would do, but he showed him the eyes and went near-post and what a great finish it was.’

Monday night’s win has lifted Erik ten Hag’s side above Liverpool and into 14th in the table after back-to-back defeats in their opening games.

Rashford will be hoping to impress again when United travel to Southampton for Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off.
