Arsenal are reportedly ready to escalate their attempts to sign Leeds forward Raphinha, having been rebuffed by the Whites so far.

Sportsmail revealed earlier this week that the Gunners’ opening bid for the Brazilian fell well short of Leeds’ £65million valuation.

Chelsea, Tottenham and Barcelona have also shown interest in Raphinha, whose preferred destination is said to be the Nou Camp.

But according to The Athletic, Arsenal are considered ‘firm favourites’ to sign the 25-year-old among the clubs chasing him and will step up their pursuit next week.

It is claimed that Mikel Arteta and co will increase their offer and hold talks with Raphinha’s representatives, while the player is reportedly open to moving to the Emirates Stadium.

Raphinha contributed 11 goals and three assists as Leeds narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League last season.

He has two years left on his contract at Elland Road, but the Whites appreciate that it will be difficult to extend that deal.

The forward plays alongside the likes of Neymar, Vinicius Jr and Casemiro for Brazil and wants to test himself in European competition.
