Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has refused to discuss a contract extension with the Madrid club and plans to work under his current deal, which expires in 2023, according to SER Deportivos.

Kroos, 32, told the club he doesn’t want to be a burden on the team and prefers to wait to see how next year goes. According to the publication, this decision surprised the management of Real Madrid.

Kroos has been with Madrid since the summer of 2014 and has won 17 trophies with the team. Last season, the German midfielder made 44 appearances for the club, scoring three goals and providing three assists.
