Sergino Dest’s future is up in the air as Barcelona would not rule out cashing in on the former Ajax right-back in the event an interesting offer arrives in the summer.
The Blaugrana are in need of some financial boost and selling Dest would be a good way to raise funds in their bid to strengthen their squad ahead of next season.
Barcelona target Noussair Mazraoui will join Bayern Munich, which means that there might still be space for Dest in the squad. However, should Cesar Azpilicueta join on a free transfer from Chelsea, Dest’s situation would change.
Meanwhile, the United States men’s national soccer team (USMNT) international has no intention to part ways with Barcelona any time soon.
He is aware that he hasn’t managed to impress at the Blaugrana, but there are factors which didn’t help him develop, such as the team’s situation.
Dest has struggled with injuries this season, but he believes that he can bounce back in 2022/23. His versatility is a very important factor for Barcelona to take into account, since Dest can play both as on the right and left flank, as a full-back or a winger.
Barcelona’s directors will make the final decision about the player’s future and it is very possible that the financial factor will weigh more than the sporting aspect.
Azpilicueta’s potential signing would be key, as Barcelona have Oscar Mingueza and Dani Alves to cover for whoever will be considered as their first-choice right-back next season.
