Matej Vydra’s second-half strike from close range gave Burnley a massive three points in their battle to stay in the Premier League as the home side beat Wolves at Turf Moor.

A second consecutive victory – after Thursday’s 2-0 win against Southampton – temporarily lifts Burnley out of the relegation zone for the first time since October. The Clarets move two points above Everton, who play Liverpool at Anfield in the Merseyside derby on Sundayat 4.30pm, live on Sky Sports Premier League.
Vydra, who was making just his second start of the year as he came in to replace the injured Maxwel Cornet, broke the deadlock (62) after finishing from the edge of the six-yard box following a Wout Weghorst cut-back.
Wolves were the stronger side in the first half, but failed to recover after Burnley went in front with Jonny Otto’s deflected effort in the opening 45 minutes, which was saved by Nick Pope, the closest they came to scoring.
This defeat – a third in four games – means Wolves remain three points adrift of seventh-placed West Ham as they suffer yet another blow to their chances of European qualification.
The Czech netted after being teed up by strike partner Wout Weghorst in the 62nd minute – and the goal was enough for all three points and sees Michael Jackson’s side leapfrog Everton out of the relegation zone.

The Toffees are now two points behind in 18th, though do have two games in hand, one of which is this afternoon’s Merseyside Derby against Liverpool.
