Barcelona and Arsenal have reportedly held talks about Brazilian centre back Gabriel moving to Spain – and a swap deal of sorts is on the table too.

The Gunners defender joined in 2020 for £27million from Lille, and has made 27 Premier League appearances this season in forming a strong partnership with £50m man Ben White.

Yet according to Spanish outlet SPORT, LaLiga giants Barca are interested in the 24-year-old and are looking at signing a left-footed central defender this summer.

The report details that Barca are looking to add defensive players this summer, with the club willing to let Samuel Umtiti and Clement Lenglet go.

With Gerard Pique, Eric Garcia and Ronald Araujo the current centre backs and Chelsea’s Andreas Christensen a key target, Barca are also looking at Gabriel to potentially strengthen their defence.

Yet while talks have taken place, no agreement has yet been reached and Arsenal would be keen for a swap deal of sorts – with Neto, Memphis Depay and Riqui Puig potentially on the table.

But a lot will depend on whether Arsenal can secure Champions League football for next season.

The Gunners were in the ascendancy 10 days ago but consecutive defeats to Crystal Palace and Brighton have handed the initiative to fierce rivals Tottenham.

Barcelona, however, are second in LaLiga, four points clear of fifth-placed Real Betis with a game in hand.
