According to reports in France, Emmanuel Macron has personally intervened to try and persaude Kylian Mbappe to remain at PSG this summer.
Kylian Mbappe’s PSG future has become a matter of state in France as well as Qatar. According to French journalist Romain Molina, Emmanuel Macron has intervened to try and persuade the Les Bleus star to remain at the Parc des Princes amid rumours of an imminent move to Real Madrid. The French president, who is in the midst of an electoral campaign, is keen to ensure the greatest talent of his generation does not leave Ligue 1, which will certainly be a blow to the prestige of the French top flight.
Mbappe still undecided on Real Madrid move
As well as Macron, the state of Qatar is also working behind the scenes to try and convince Mbappe to extend his stay in the French capital. The 23-year-old, who joined PSG from Monaco in 2018 after spending a year on loan at the Parc des Princes, is out of contract at the end of the current season and has so far proved non-committal to agreeing to a new deal. According to Molina, the Emir of Qatar is also personally in touch with the player to try and convince him his future is in Paris.
Qatar Sports Investments, which owns the Ligue 1 side, has put all its available financial clout at the disposal of PSG to make Mbappe the club’s highest-paid player and to base the team around the France striker for the next few years.
Mbappe said recently that he still has not made a decision on his future, leading to renewed optimism in Paris that the France star could yet decide to stay.
