Manchester United will be chasing a number of players when the January transfer window opens in a few weeks time.

However, while a number of new names may get linked with a move to Old Trafford ahead of this busy period of business, some old ones are just as likely to linger.

Perhaps one player that fans have grown slightly tired of hearing about is Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

The Serbia international has been touted as a potential Man Utd signing for a number of years now and nothing has ever seemed to materialise.

However, with rumours gaining pace once again, this coming transfer window may finally be the perfect opportunity for Man Utd to sign this long-term transfer target.

He’s not too expensive

When it comes to Man Utd signing ready-made players to immediately improve their first team, the club are well versed in spending large sums of money when needed.

They did it with Bruno Fernandes, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane in recent seasons and they’ll likely do it again in January if they believe they can land the Lazio star at a certain price.

Although Milinkovic-Savic is currently valued at €45 million and reports in Italy suggest the capital side are holding out for €75 million, that’s still some way short of what Declan Rice or Jude Bellingham would cost.

He’s good enough

While the box-to-box talent would have to prove that he’s good enough to make the step up to the Premier League, Man Utd fans would be forgiven for getting excited about Milinkovic-Savic based on his form in the Italian top-flight.

In 211 Serie A games, Milinkovic-Savic has bagged no less than 42 goals and 35 assists for Lazio and in this season alone he’s picked up five goals and five assists in 17 league games.

Indeed, Milinkovic-Savic has shown for a number of years now that he’s perfectly adept at scoring and creating goals in equal measure and that could be exactly what Man Utd will need in the centre of midfield next season.
