The 20-year-old, who is currently on loan at Marseille in Ligue 1, has established himself as key player under manager Jorge Sampaoli.

Saliba has made 21 appearances in all competitions so far this season, and been a consistent performer at the heart of the defence.

He refused to reveal where he will playing next season after being asked by news outlet RTL.

‘I prefer not to speak about my future, but I’m very good here.

‘I don’t regret my decision. I have been very happy since day one.

‘I have one year here and I am going to give my all.’

The Frenchman joined Arsenal in the summer of 2019 from Saint-Etienne for £27million, but has spent the last two seasons out on loan, and yet to make his debut for the Gunners.

He returned to Saint-Etienne for the remainder of 2019-20 campaign, before also featuring for Nice in his homeland.

Arsenal brought in Ben White from Brighton in a £50million deal last summer, and that prompted Saliba to join Marseille on a season-long loan, with Mikel Arteta keen for him to play regularly.

Saliba does remain in the Spaniards plans, and the Gunners boss previously revealed the club have been keeping a close eye on him, sending club representatives to watch him feature for Marseille in their 0-0 draw with Paris Saint-Germain back in October.

‘Yes as a club we are always in touch.

‘Edu and Ben Knapper (Arsenal’s loan manager) were there to watch him and keep a close eye on him the progress he’s making.

‘He’s obviously our player and we do that with all the loan players that we have.’

Having been asked whether Saliba could feature at the Emirates next season, Arteta previously said: ‘That’s a decision that we will make next summer.

‘He’s our player and naturally that will happen. We’ll have to sit down and decide what the best next step is.’

Should Saliba continue to shine, the club are likely to offer him a new contract, with his current deal set to expire in 2024.
