Derby’ prospective new owner Chris Kirchner is set to attend the Rams’ home game against Blackburn on Saturday as he aims to buy the club.

Kirchner, a US businessman, has held discussions with the club’s administrators and met manager Wayne Rooney at last week’s meeting with Luton at Pride Park, with the asking price for Derby about £50million.

The 34-year-old has already approached fans’ groups to try to secure backing, though administrator Andrew Hosking says Kirchner’s is not the only serious expression of interest.

Hosking said: ‘He’s certainly one of the credible businessmen. He’s fully funded and he’s submitted a proper written offer, so he’s in the top two or three [potential buyers].

‘It doesn’t mean to say that that’s it. My job is to make sure we have the best potential individual to exit the administration that will be acceptable to the EFL, be acceptable to the fans and also going to offer the return that we feel we can deliver to the various stakeholders currently owed money.

‘I’ve got some very good people around me at this club, this guy is really switched on he does know his onions and the advisors he had were very switched on,’ he told talkSPORT.

Rooney has also offered cautious backing to Kirchner. He said: ‘I spent a bit of time with him, so he has got some really good ideas and as long as everything is right for the club I can see it being a real positive.’
