AC Milan have signed midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko from Chelsea on a two-year loan with an option to make the move permanent, the clubs said on Monday.

Bakayoko posed in Milan colours and signed his name on a chalkboard after rejoining the Serie A giants, having made 42 appearances in all competitions for them during the 2018/19 season.

The 27-year-old Frenchman moved to Chelsea in 2017 but failed to establish himself as a first-team regular.

Bakayoko has spent much of his time out on loan, including the last two seasons at Monaco and Napoli respectively.

In arguably the highlight of his Stamford Bridge career to date, Bakayoko played the entire 90 minutes as his side beat Manchester United 1-0 in the 2018 FA Cup final.

‘AC Milan is delighted to announce the signing of [Bakayoko] from Chelsea FC on a two-year loan, which could turn into an obligation if certain conditions are met,” the seven-time Champions League winners said in a statement.

The club added that they had ‘unlocked’ Bakayoko alongside his signing pictures, accompanying the clip of him etching his signature on a chalkboard with the words: ‘Leaving his mark again.’

Chelsea officially confirmed the switch, adding: ‘We wish him all the best for the season.’

Bakayoko will be reunited with former Blues teammates Fikayo Tomori and Olivier Giroud, who both joined Milan permanently this summer.

The former Rennes and Monaco powerhouse will face Liverpool among Milan’s Champions League opponents this season.

Milan, who beat Cagliari 4-1 on Sunday, have won both their league games so far and sit fourth in the table in the Italian top flight.
