Chelsea claimed victory in the London derby defeating Arsenal 0-2 at the Emirates stadium in a very convincing display on Romelu Lukaku’s first game since returning to the club.

There are now serious concerns about Arsenal’s prospects going forward after two defeats from their opening two Premier League games, while Chelsea have further emphasised their position as title candidates.

Before today, Arsenal had lost just three of the last 14 encounters between the two sides, but those games didn’t involve Lukaku who seems determined to prove he is a far better player than the one Chelsea fans saw almost a decade ago at Stamford Bridge after returning to the club.

Thomas Tuchel’s side got off to the perfect start with new summer signing Lukaku opening the scoring early in the first half.

The Belgian didn’t score in his first 15 games in his first period in London, but it took him just 15 minutes this time around and this kind of ruthlessness is surely a sign of things to come.

Chelsea dominated from start to finish and Lukaku led his side extremely well from the front, which will please Tuchel immensely.

Nicolas Pepe had the odd moments of promise for the home side, but was unable to cause the Blues any significant problems, and his fellow forwards Emile Smith Rowe and Buyako Saka were also quiet with Gunners only managing one shot on goal in the first half.

The visitors had a lot of joy down Arsenal’s left flank, with Kieran Tierney left exposed throughout the game, and Reece James doubled their lead just before half time from an attack down that same side.

The game slowed in the second half as the rain in London came lashing down as Chelsea tried to kill the Gunners’ rhythm.

Chelsea have now taken six points from their opening two matches, scoring five goals and conceding none, while Arsenal sit at the bottom of the table after two defeats with four goals conceded and zero scored.
