Thomas Partey will reportedly miss the start of Arsenal’s season after picking up an ankle injury at the weekend.

The Ghanian was on the end of a strong challenge from Ruben Loftus-Cheek during the Gunners’ 2-1 defeat by Chelsea in their Mind Series pre-season friendly on Sunday.

Partey was forced off in the 39th minute where he received treatment on his ankle but ESPN are now reporting that he will see a specialist later this week and the £45million star is expected to be out for a few weeks.

After the match, Arteta told reporters: ‘I just had a talk with the doc. He’ll have a scan tomorrow.

‘At the moment it’s not looking good because he was in pain and could not continue.’

It’s more frustration for Partey, who also missed a large part of last season following his high-profile move from Atletico Madrid.

Arsenal play one final friendly against north London rivals Tottenham on August 8 before their Premier League campaign gets underway against newly-promoted Brentford at the Brentford Community Stadium.
