Despite now being 36, turning 37 in less than 2 weeks time, Giorgio Chiellini is still one of the world’s best defenders.

The Italian captain his side at the first major tournament tournament since 2016. Itay failed to qualify for the World Cup in 2018 and the fact Chiellini, under the guidance of Roberto Mancini, went on to win the competition is quite a stunning feat.

Chiellini took over captaincy after Gianluigi Buffon retired from the international scene. He martialled the defence in front of young prodigy Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The Italian suffered an injury against Switzerland which threatened to end his tournament but he returned in the knockouts and played like a man possessed all the way through to victory over England in the final on penalties.

The questions will continue as to whether he will be part of the Italy squad at the World Cup in Qatar 2022, but what will not be a mystery is whether he will continue at Juventus.

Chiellini to sign new deal

It has been confirmed that Chiellini will indeed sign a new deal offered to him by Juventus.

The Old Lady have decided that there is still more to come from the iconic defender.

His performances this summer showed just how good he remains.

Juve are looking to steal back the title from Inter Milan, in addition to pushing for the Champions league under returning coach Massimiliano Allegri, and clearly Chiellini is seen as an integral piece of the puzzle to achieve it.
