Benfica are believed to be interested in signing Harry Wilson, though Liverpool’s valuation of the player has halted any progress being made so far.

The Welshman spent last season on loan at Cardiff and chipped in with seven goals and 11 assists to help his side finish 8th in the Championship.

It remains to be seen whether he will return to Anfield next season and be a part of Jurgen Klopp’s plans, but the 24-year-old will have options even if his future is not at Liverpool.

The Athletic report Benfica have made an official approach to sign Wilson, and while talks have broken down over Liverpool’s £13m valuation, it’s expected the Portuguese club will come back with an improved offer.

Liverpool rejected a bid from Burnley of £11m for Wilson last summer, and believe they can get a higher fee now after his successful loan spell at Cardiff.

Swansea and West Brom are among the clubs reportedly also interested in Wilson should the move to Benfica not materialise.

The winger is currently involved in Wales’ Euro 2020 campaign, playing 5 minutes off the bench against Turkey before appearing for 16 minutes against Italy.

Rob Page’s men face Denmark in Amsterdam on Saturday in the last 16, with the winner earning a quarter-final clash against Holland or the Czech Republic.

Wilson joined Liverpool at the age of nine, but he has yet to play a single minute of Premier League football for the Reds.

Speaking towards the end of last season, he was asked if it would be strange to leave Liverpool permanently even though he has spent much of his time away from the club.

‘Yeah, maybe,’ Wilson told Sgorio. ‘I feel my senior career has been elsewhere so far.

‘150-200 appearances deep now and only a couple have been at Liverpool.

‘The club will always be close to my heart, but if it means moving away to further my career then so be it.’
