Arsenal midfielder, Granit Xhaka, wants his Roma transfer so he can work under former Tottenham and Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.

The Swiss star is being tipped to complete a move to the Italian capital in the coming days. As reported  last week, Xhaka heads a list of at least three Arsenal players who are set to leave.

Xhaka has been with the Gunners since 2016. He completed his move to North London for a reported £30m at the time.

But his spell with the Gunners hasn’t exactly been riddled with success. He did win the FA Cup last season, but has had fallouts with fans and managers in his time.

And now ESPN have reported that Xhaka is pushing through a deal to Roma due to his respect for Jose Mourinho. The report from them claims Xhaka is keen to work under the former Tottenham boss.

It is claimed Xhaka enjoys the disciplined and tactical approach Mourinho brings to the table. He is expected to complete his move to Italy for around £16m, barring any last minute hiccups.

Xhaka wants Roma transfer but don’t be surprised at a collision course with Mourinho either

We hear this so many times with players. They express a desire to go and work under Mourinho – or another manager – and quickly find out it’s not all that they dreamed.

Now, Xhaka and Mourinho could well be a match made in heaven. If the midfielder sticks to his task and puts the graft in, Mourinho will love him, like he did with Hojbjerg at Spurs.

But should Xhaka spit the dummy out like he has done at times with the Gunners, then it could be a nightmare. Mourinho is quick to fall out with people these days.

Xhaka, then, needs to ensure that doesn’t happen.
