Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has described Manchester United’s appointment of Ralf Rangnick as ‘really interesting’ ahead of the two sides facing off on Thursday.

Rangnick’s arrival was confirmed on Monday but as they wait for a work visa to be confirmed, caretaker manager Michael Carrick will take charge of tomorrow’s Premier League match at Old Trafford.

Ex-RB Leipzig and Hoffenheim coach Rangnick has been praised by other Premier League managers such as Jurgen Klopp & Thomas Tuchel and Arteta joined in at his pre-match press conference on Wednesday.

‘He’s been one of the top coaches,’ Arteta said.

‘He’s made some radical changes in some areas and is a really interesting person in the football world and a really interesting appointment for the football club.’

Arteta also spoke about the form of his captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who missed an open goal during the Gunners’ 2-0 win against Newcastle on Saturday.

The Arsenal manager admits he needs a ‘scoring contribution’ from his captain, who has scored just four Premier League goals so far this season.

‘Well the form of Auba is always going to be related to how he scores,’ Arteta said.

‘He’s doing a lot of other things but obviously we need that contribution. That has to be his aim.’
