Ousmane Dembele has reportedly told his agents that he wishes to extend his stay at Barcelona, despite four difficult years at the Nou Camp.

The 24-year-old French international joined the club for a massive £124m fee from Borussia Dortmund, before the start of the 2017-18 season.

Dembele’s move has not worked out well for either the club or player, and there had been suggestions that he had no plans to stay past his current contract which is in its last year.

It has now been reported by Spanish publication Sport, that Dembele is now willing to stay at the Nou Camp.

The French player has informed his agents that he wants to reach a satisfactory agreement with the club and it’s said the two parties are entering the ‘final stretch’.

There had been some concern by Barcelona that they could lose the player on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Barcelona could have looked to sell Dembele in the January transfer window if they are unable to sign him to a new deal.

It’s said now that the LaLiga giants are ‘feeling more optimistic’ that they can tie Dembele down to a new extension – something they hope to accomplish this month.

The winger had been linked with a host of clubs in recent months, including Liverpool and Manchester United, with clubs across Europe keeping tabs on his contract situation.

Dembele’s time at the Nou Camp has been hit by injury issues with the winger making just 81 LaLiga appearances to date, since joining in 2017.

But his 11 goals last season saw him deliver arguably his best season at the Nou Camp.

After suffering an injury at Euro 2020 with France, Dembele got his first minutes of the season on Tuesday night when he came off the bench for Barcelona who beat Dynamo Kyiv 1-0 in the Champions League.
