Peter Crouch has hinted that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not getting the most out of his Manchester United side following their comeback victory over Atalanta.

United had fallen 2-0 down at home to the Italian side in their Champions League group stage encounter on Wednesday.

But a second half comeback saw goals from Marcus Rashford and Harry Maguire bring the hosts level before Cristiano Ronaldo nodded home the winner nine minutes from time.

The win though masked over another mixed display from the Red Devils though who went into the game having collapsed to a late 4-2 defeat at Leicester City in the Premier League at the weekend.

Crouch believes that United are not making the most of their attacking contingent and that Solskjaer’s caution to keep his players happy is working against him, citing fellow elite managers including Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola and Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp as coaches who would get more out of the United attack.

‘I think if Pep and Klopp are in charge of this (United) team, I think the front four would work a lot harder, no way they would get away with it,’ Crouch told BT Sport. ‘Don’t think Ole will upset players.’

‘I see body language on some players that under Pep and Klopp they would be hauled off. Arms thrown recently, that I don’t like, needs to be nipped in the bud, those two would have made sure it was.

‘David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne were the two hardest working players when City pumped us in a game a while back, I don’t see that at United.’

Solskjaer will face one of his biggest tests of the season so far on Sunday when United take on Liverpool at Old Trafford in the Premier League.

Ronaldo’s late show follows his last gasp winner over Villarreal earlier in the group stage, but Crouch claims relying on late strikes from the Portuguese maestro can only hide United’s issues for so long.

‘Come Sunday when Liverpool are more solid and have better attacking players, they will come unstuck, it isn’t sustainable to keep relying on individual brilliance.

‘Ole has come from Cardiff and Molde, managing Manchester United, unfortunately they do not have a manager of the experience of Pep, Tuchel, and Klopp.’
