Light work for Manchester City vs Club Brugge

Manchester City faced off with Belgian outfit Club Brugge on Tuesday evening at the Jan Breydel Stadium.

Brugge actually headed into the game sat top of their Champions League group after picking up a win over RB Leipzig and a draw with PSG, the latter of which Man City lost to recently.

So, fans of the Manchester outfit were perhaps expecting a tough test on Tuesday. However, this proved to be far from the case.

Man City dominated from the get-go and would eventually come away with a 5-1 victory thanks to goals from Joao Cancelo, Riyad Mahrez (2), Kyle Walker and Cole Palmer.

Guardiola on Kompany’s role in win over Brugge

Following the game, Pep Guardiola revealed the role which Vincent Kompany played in City’s win.

The former defender of course plied his trade with the Citizens from 2009 to 2019.

Kompany then returned to his home country of Belgium to play for Anderlecht, who he now manages.

As a result, Kompany is, of course, quite familiar with Brugge as he plays against them every season.

And, when speaking post-match, Guardiola confirmed that he spoke with Kompany to get some information off him regarding Brugge:

“I will let you into a secret – I spoke with Vinny Kompany. I got some information [about Club Bruges] off him.”
