Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hit out at the reaction to his remarks last week where he told Marcus Rashford to ‘prioritise football’.

Speaking prior to Manchester United’s 4-2 defeat by Leicester last week, Solskjaer said of Rashford: ‘You know what he has done off the pitch as well because he has done some fantastic things, and now it is time to maybe prioritise his football and focus on football.’

Rashford made his comeback from a shoulder injury in the game against Leicester and scored United’s second goal. Now, at a press conference ahead of United’s Champions League encounter against Atalanta, Solskjaer backtracked.

‘Just to get the elephant out of the room — we are so unbelievably proud of what Marcus [Rashford] has done on and off the pitch,’ he said.

‘You know what I said and you made a headline out of one little comment I never intended to be the focus of what I was saying.’

Solskjaer’s clarification comes after it was reported how his comments had irked people close to Rashford.
