Just shy of the half-hour mark, key defender Reece James went to ground holding his ankle, after appearing to pick up a problem whilst contesting with Jack Grealish.

The English international was subsequently seen to by Chelsea’s medical team, but was deemed in no condition to continue, before ultimately limping off.

In turn, supporters of the Blues had since been patiently awaiting an update on the wellbeing of their side’s stopper, ahead of a crunch clash with Italian heavyweights Juventus in midweek.

And though Thomas Tuchel is yet to speak out over the problem picked up by James, the early word from inside the stadium has proven far from encouraging.
