Harry Kane has effectively ruled himself out of the Tottenham’s season opener against Manchester City by spending another day outside the UK.

As previously reported by Sportsmail, Kane had stopped in Florida on his way back from a family holiday in the Bahamas despite the fact he was due to report for pre-season training on Monday.

Kane’s no-show has disappointed Tottenham and the club’s frustrations won’t have improved as it emerged they were still awaiting confirmation of his return to England on Wednesday afternoon – with Kane understood to have remained in Florida.

The 28-year-old, it is understood, still plans to report back to the club this weekend but it is likely that he will only be able to take a Covid test at their HQ before then having to complete a period of isolation ahead of a return to training.

The Spurs talisman will be required to isolate for up to 10 days upon his return.

He can, however, take a ‘test to release’ procedure on day five of his arrival home which would end his quarantine period provided he produces a negative result. It is understood Kane intends to take the day five test.

Nevertheless, the fact Kane was still in Florida on Wednesday means he will not commence training until the start of next week at the earliest.

The development virtually rules Kane out of being available for the clash against City a week on Sunday given he won’t have played in any pre-season fixtures or trained for an extended period.

Ironically, Kane’s decision to stay away from the club’s Enfield HQ is an attempt to force through a move to City – but it now appears certain that the striker will not be playing against the team he wants to join.
