Arsenal have become the second Premier League club to enter the world of cryptocurrency as they announced they will launch the $AFC Fan Token.

Manchester City, PSG and Barcelona are among the clubs already involved at club level, while Argentina and Portugal are two of the national sides signed up to partnerships.

Fan Tokens are collectible digital assets, minted on the Chiliz blockchain, that provide owners with access to voting rights in polls, chat forums, games and competitions on Socios.com.

The Gunners have confirmed the partnership will allow fans to influence club decisions through interactive polls, while the competition and quizzes will result in real-life and and digital club-related rewards.

Arsenal’s commercial director, Peter Silverstone said: ‘We are excited to launch this partnership with Socios that will bring our huge global fan base even closer to the club.

‘Socios are leading the way in blockchain in the sports industry, as we have seen from their relationships with other leading European clubs.

‘When we launch the $AFC Fan Tokens together we will give our hundreds of millions of fans worldwide more opportunities to interact with the club and be a part of our global family.’

It’s another off-the-field announcement for the Gunners, after it was revealed earlier in the summer that they would be the focus of Amazon’s latest All or Nothing documentary series this season.

City and Tottenham have both had their own documentaries in the past, giving an insight into life behind-the-scenes at a top football club, and Arsenal will be hoping that it records a successful campaign.
