Manchester City appear to have suffered a setback in their pursuit of Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka, after reports emerged that the England international is set to hold talks to extend his contract with the North London club.

According to Caught Offside, Saka is due to take part in talks with the league leaders in the ‘next weeks and months’, with Arsenal adamant that they want to extend the 21-year-old’s contract instead of cashing-in on their talisman amid the interest generated around the winger. The Gunners star shone for England during their World Cup campaign, continuing his fine form that has seen him register four goals and six assists in the Premier League this season.

City have reportedly been long-term admirers of Saka, with Pep Guardiola looking to bolster his attacking options ahead of the January transfer window. Despite Mikel Arteta’s connections with the club, it is unlikely that the Spaniard will allow the Blues to sign his key player as easily as City sanctioned the departures of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko to the Emirates.
