Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has spent the week at La Reunion island.

Benzema – who was ruled out of the World Cup after sustaining an injury during France’s first full training session in Qatar – touched down Tuesday morning.

There were reports that Benzema could make a sensational return to the France squad during the knockout stages of the competition but the 34-year-old is now said to be a ‘long way off’ being 100 per cent fit.

L’Equipe says Benzema was to stay in a private rental for seven days before returning to full-time training at Real Madrid.
