Aston Villa got off to the perfect start under new manager Unai Emery as they defeated Manchester United 3-1 at Villa Park.

The home side scored the opening goal through Leon Bailey inside seven minutes, before Lucas Digne doubled the lead shortly after. United struggled to provide a response, though Jacob Ramsey’s own goal on the brink of half-time saw the visitors pull one goal back.

Villa academy graduate Ramsey then scored his second of the afternoon as the hosts returned to winning ways in fine fashion. Emery’s team are now in 13th place, having beat United at home for the first time in 27 years.
