Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White has claimed that his side were ‘cheated’ out of a win against Brentford.

Forest went 1-0 up in the first-half thanks to a solo effort from Gibbs-White but were pegged back by a controversial penalty – before eventually drawing 2-2.

Gibbs-White believes that his side had ‘full control of the game’ before they were ‘done’ by referee Andre Marriner.

Late on in the first-half, Brentford’s Yoane Wissa rounded Forest ‘keeper Dean Henderson – before going down in the box.

Following the subsequent, lengthy VAR check, a penalty was awarded to the Bees and Henderson was shown a yellow card – Brentford’s Bryan Mbuemo then dispatched the spot kick to level the scores.

Not holding back following the full-time whistle, Gibbs-White claimed: ‘I think we got cheated out of the three points.’

It is a damning indictment from the 22-year-old midfielder and highlights the frustration that the Forest side must have been feeling after the game.

Despite their late equaliser, this result will be tough to take for Forest, given their situation in the league, and boss Steve Cooper’s comments show that Marriner’s decisions weren’t well-liked in the home changing room.

Cooper said: ‘My feeling is, if he’s given one then he has to give four in the game.’

The Forest boss then opted to be more diplomatic than his player and continued: ‘I have real mixed feelings about how the game went today and I’m fighting hard to bite my tongue.’

‘I just feel that if he’s got to go and look at the screen for that one – he’s also got to look at three others.’

Nottingham Forest will see this as a missed opportunity to climb up from the bottom of the Premier League table and their fans may find themselves agreeing with Gibbs-White and Cooper’s comments.
