Hugo Lloris made a howler against Arsenal in Saturday’s north London derby to give the hosts a golden opportunity to go 2-1 up in a pulsating clash.

The French World Cup winning goalkeeper somehow dropped the ball after a Bukayo Saka strike from inside the box right into the path of a waiting Gabriel Jesus, who tapped home from just a yard out to put his side back in front.

Jesus’ goal came just three minutes after the restart, after Thomas Partey’s opener was cancelled out by a Harry Kane penalty to leave the game balanced on a knife edge at the interval.

And fans took to Twitter to add insult to injury, with one fan writing: ‘I think we all agree Lloris is one of the most overrated keepers in the world.’

Another added: ‘Can’t believe how shocking that was from Lloris, throwing it away in a huge game. So f****** costly.’

A third supporter compared him to an under-fire Manchester United defender said: ‘Lloris is the Harry Maguire of goalkeepers.’

A fourth suggested Lloris was actually playing for Arsenal: ‘Lloris single-handedly trying to win us the game…

A fourth suggested Lloris was actually playing for Arsenal: ‘Lloris single-handedly trying to win us the game… French football still has Arsenal in its heart.’

And a fifth could only ask questions of the Frenchman in anger: ‘What the hell are you actually playing at Hugo Lloris bruv.’

One supporter was quick to highlight the fact that this was not the first error Lloris has made: ‘Hugo Lloris has been costing Spurs for years.’

And a seventh fan suggested Lloris should hang up his gloves, adding: ‘It is time for Hugo Lloris to step down. He is one of the main problem why Spurs conceded goals.’

The World Cup winner’s blunder proved to be a decisive moment in the game, with Arsenal seizing the initiative soon after, and racing to a 3-1 lead inside 70 minutes.

And to make matters worse, Emerson Royal saw red after a rash and dangerous challenge on Gabriel Martinelli to leave his side with just ten men.
