Arsenal could be in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer, and rumours are already ramping up.

There are questions over the future of Bernd Leno, Mat Ryan’s loan spell has ended and Runar Runarsson clearly isn’t Premier League standard.

NOS in the Netherlands reported on Tuesday that Arsenal are favourites to sign Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana this summer.

Onana is currently banned from playing until February 2022 due to a doping violation, but will have his hearing today in order to determine a possible reduction in his sentence.

The 25-year-old shot-stopper is one of the top goalkeepers in Europe, and his ban – alongside his contract expiring in 2022, just months after he is supposed to return – mean he could be a bargain this summer.

NOS claim that Onana could be sold for €9million (£7.7million) this summer, and Arsenal are positioning themselves to land a bargain.

Fabrizio Romano has offered an update, taking to Twitter in order to claim that Arsenal have been in ‘direct contact’ with his agents since January, meaning this move could be months in the making.

The hearing over his suspension will be key to a move for Onana, but Romano claims it is ‘impossible’ for Arsenal to re-sign Wojciech Szczesny if a deal for Onana falls through.

Szczesny left Arsenal for Juventus in 2017 and has impressed in Italy, but a return to North London seemingly won’t be happening no matter what.
