Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has praised his side’s mentality after their ‘really tough’ victory against Nottingham Forest.

Spurs earned a hard-fought 2-0 win over the newly-promoted side, with the visitors holding onto a lead for the majority of the game.
Tottenham have been criticised in the past for their lack of character, yet Conte suggested that those so-called claims were a thing of the past.

Speaking after the game, Conte said: ‘The game was tough, it was really tough. It was my first time playing in this stadium, it’s not easy for the players, a lot of noise around the pitch.
‘I think we suffered. I think we worked hard to exploit the space and cause problems to Forest.
‘It is not easy to come here and get three points. I think this group of players are improving, and are learning to suffer together. We have to improve, to play the ball together, we work. In the end, I’m satisfied.’
Tottenham are unbeaten in their opening four Premier League games of the season, while their victory on Sunday has vaulted them into third spot in the top-flight.

Conte added: ‘For us, to come here and get three points, we didn’t have many chances, we missed a penalty. It’s a good shape for our team. In the past, people said Tottenham would lose this kind of game.
‘For sure, we are working on this aspect [mentality]. The mental aspect is very important, if you are strong mentally, you are a survivor in this situation. If you are not, you will suffer.’

Conte’s side travel to London rivals West Ham in their next game in the top-flight on Wednesday evening.
