Serie A champions AC Milan are reportedly keen to recruit Real Madrid playmaker Marco Asensio, who was linked with a potential move to Arsenal on Sunday.

The 26-year-old is soon to enter the final 12 months of his Real Madrid contract and has yet to finalise a new deal in the Spanish capital.

The Champions League winners may decide this summer is the opportune time to sell him, as several clubs have reportedly declared interest in his services.

Asensio plans to meet with the Madrid chiefs and make a decision on his future at the club this week, having finished the last of his Nations League matches with Spain on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Gunners are believed to have ‘contacted Asensio’s representatives’ in a bid to negotiate a deal, but it seems AC Milan have now also entered the race.

Former club legend and sporting director Paolo Maldini has already made contact with Los Blancos manager Carlo Ancelotti to enquire about the winger’s situation, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper claims that Real Madrid have not ruled out selling the Spanish international for a fee in the region of €50 million.

Milan have fostered a positive relationship with the Spanish giants in recent transfer windows, having agreed both the loan of 22-year-old Brahim Diaz and the signing of left-back Theo Hernandez.

During his time on international duty, Asensio told reporters: ‘I have one year left on my contract. Now, I am focused on the national team.

‘When this is over, we will talk. We will see what I will do with my future. I think there are possibilities. There is also the option to stay and fulfil my contract year.

‘Rumours are part of football, and more so at Real Madrid.

‘High-level players are always associated with it. It’s something we have to live with.’
