It ended 2-1 in favour of the Super Eagles of Nigeria against the Sierra Leone team at the Moshood Abiola Stadium. The Super Eagles manager, Jose Peseiro opted for a 4-2-2-2 formation.

And one of the noticeable decision in that formation was the fact that The manager played without a Defensive Midfielder. Instead he deployed Joe Aribo and Alex Iwobi as the deep lying midfielders.

So according to popular Nigerian sports Journalist, Adepoju Tobi Samuel, he interviewed the gaffer after the match on why he took the decision not to deploy a Defensive Midfielder?

In his reply, Jose Peseiro told the journalist that he can play any player he wants because he makes the decision. Peseiro said that If he ask him(the journalist) to give him his favourite starting eleven for the game, it will be different from the ones other persons will bring. In conclusion, he told Tobi that he believes in his players and It is my responsibility to select the players according to their plans.
